KARACHI: A top-level security review session was convened on Wednesday to evaluate and reinforce safety measures for Chinese nationals residing in Karachi, chaired by DIG South Asad Raza.
The meeting was attended by SSP Keamari, SSP South, representatives from the Special Protection Unit (SPU), and other senior officials. During the discussions, DIG South received an in-depth briefing on existing security protocols protecting foreign consulates and foreign residents, with a special focus on the Chinese community working and living in the South Zone.
Participants examined the current security arrangements, analyzing their adequacy and effectiveness. DIG Raza stressed the need for comprehensive security measures and instructed officials to conduct a renewed survey of security strategies related to foreign consulates to ensure maximum safety and resilience.
It was agreed that police patrolling around foreign consulates would be increased, with additional checkpoints established at high-risk locations to improve surveillance and quick response times.
The DIG also directed enforcement of strict adherence to standard operating procedures (SOPs) concerning the movement, accommodation, and protection of foreign nationals, particularly Chinese residents. “All current security arrangements for Chinese residents require immediate review,” he emphasized, urging officials to identify and address any gaps or vulnerabilities swiftly. The goal is to ensure foolproof protection for foreign nationals in Karachi.
The meeting concluded with a firm reaffirmation by the South Zone Police of their commitment to maintaining a secure and stable environment for all foreign residents, especially the Chinese community, within the city.
