KARACHI: Police in Karachi’s Gulistan-e-Jauhar area have arrested the alleged leader of a gang involved in a string of house robberies, claiming the suspect played a key role in planning and executing the crimes.
According to investigators, the accused, identified as Irfan Iqbal, was traced and arrested using technical surveillance and CCTV footage. Police alleged that he orchestrated a robbery at a residence in Block 2 of Gulistan-e-Jauhar with the help of his accomplices.
During the incident, the gang allegedly held members of the household hostage before escaping with gold jewellery, cash and other valuables.
Police said the suspect admitted during questioning that he had brought his accomplices from Faisalabad to carry out the robbery. Investigators believe he would first identify and monitor potential targets before assigning his associates to commit the crime.
CCTV footage obtained by police reportedly captures the suspects conducting surveillance of the house and their movements before the robbery.
A locally manufactured pistol and ammunition were recovered from the suspect’s possession during the arrest, according to a police spokesperson.
Officials said one of Irfan’s alleged accomplices had already been arrested by Gulistan-e-Jauhar police, while the suspect himself had a criminal record, including two previous cases registered at Samanabad Police Station in Faisalabad.
Police added that he was also wanted in separate robbery and illegal weapons cases registered in Gulistan-e-Jauhar. A fresh case has been lodged against him, investigations are continuing, and raids are underway to arrest the remaining members of the gang.
