Washington: US Secretary of Homeland Security, Kirstjen Nielsen has resigned from the post on Monday.
Nielsen submitted her resignation Sunday night after meeting at the White House with President Donald Trump.
“Secretary of Homeland Security Kirstjen Nielsen will be leaving her position, and I would like to thank her for her service,” the US president tweeted.

As per news reports, Nielsen had no intention of quitting when she arrived to meet with the U.S. leader, but that he was determined to ask for her resignation, which she submitted shortly after the meeting.
On the other hand, Kevin McAleenan, the current US Customs and Border Protection commissioner, will become acting secretary of the Department of Homeland Security.
