KP CM Afridi approves withdrawal of May 9-related cases

PESHAWAR: : In a significant decision, Chief Minister Sohail Afridi of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) has given the go-ahead to withdraw all legal cases linked to the events of May 9 and 10, 2023.

The approval was granted during a cabinet meeting chaired by the KP CM, where it was decided to remove cases that were filed under allegations of political persecution, sources confirmed.

Additionally, the cabinet approved the establishment of a special committee to investigate the incidents that occurred on May 9, 2023. During the session, Advocate General KP Shah Faisal disclosed that approximately 300 cases related to the May 9-10 events had been registered. He also mentioned that some of these cases have already been resolved in court.

Shah Faisal clarified that most of these cases involved PTI ministers, parliamentarians, activists, and workers.Meanwhile, Ikhtiar Wali Khan, Coordinator to the Prime Minister, emphasized that it has become evident that the nation faces a choice between Pakistan and PTI founder Imran Khan.

In an interview with ARY News, following a DG-ISPR briefing, Wali Khan remarked that although political parties generally oppose Governor’s Rule, the situation in KP has shifted dramatically. He pointed out that the same military that achieved victory against India is now being targeted and that public sentiment is being manipulated against the armed forces.

He reiterated his long-standing view that Imran Khan is “not a politician, but a sportsman.” Wali Khan criticized PTI’s 13-year governance in KP, describing its performance as “zero,” and expressed that decisions regarding PTI should have been made sooner, rather than delayed.

Accusing PTI of having hidden agendas, Wali Khan alleged that many of PTI’s social media accounts are operated from India and Israel, and that funds from India are being diverted to support PTI’s activities against Pakistan.

He also condemned PTI founder’s sister for appearing on Indian media and criticizing Pakistan’s military, calling it unacceptable.

Wali Khan asserted that Pakistan’s interests and PTI’s stance cannot coexist and that PTI must clarify its position; otherwise, he warned, there will be no other option left.

He dismissed concerns about Governor’s Rule, stating it is “not a big issue,” and noted that parties like PPP and JUI-F are part of the ruling alliance. However, he cautioned that PTI’s actions are creating circumstances that could justify the imposition of Governor’s Rule, despite his personal reservations about it.
