PESHAWAR: Pakistan is once again witnessing two Eids as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government had announced on Monday that the moon of Shawwal was sighted in several areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and they will celebrate Eid on Tuesday (today).
The announcement of Eid by the provincial government has divided the people of KP as people belonging to Abbottabad, Mansehra, Chitral, Dera Ismail Khan (DI Khan) have rejected the decision of the provincial government in connection with the Eid-ul-Fitr celebration.
It has been learned that some areas of the provincial capital are celebrating Eid while others are observing their last fast.
It must be noted that Eid-ul-Fitr is being celebrated across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province today (Tuesday) whereas the remaining provinces of the country prepare to celebrate the holy day on Wednesday.
The religious day is being celebrated by Muslims across KPK after the provincial government endorsed announcement of unofficial Ruet-e-Hilal Committee of Masjid Qasim Ali Khan.
Congregational Eid prayers were offered at various spots in the province. Governor Shah Farman and Chief Minister Mahmood Khan also prayed Eid prayers in Peshawar.
The Ruet-e-Hilal Committee of Masjid Qasim Ali Khan on Monday had announced that the moon of Shawwal was sighted in several areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and they will celebrate Eid on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will meet in Karachi today to sight the Shawwal moon.
However, Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry has already announced that Eid will be observed on June 05 (Wednesday) across the country.
