PESHAWAR: The police force of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has announced the acquisition of state-of-the-art anti-drone technology aimed at countering aerial threats linked to terrorism, official sources revealed on Wednesday.
This innovative system allows security personnel to identify and disable hostile drones from considerable distances, significantly strengthening the province’s counter-terrorism efforts.Sources indicate that the anti-drone setup will be strategically deployed to safeguard important government facilities, high-profile individuals, and major public gatherings. Authorities have noted that militant groups have increasingly utilized drones to execute attacks in regions such as North Waziristan and southern parts of KP.
Confirming the development, KP IGP Zulfiqar Hameed emphasized the importance of modern security tools, stating, “This anti-drone system will be crucial for upcoming security operations.” He further highlighted that the initiative is part of a broader modernization drive for the police force, aimed at bolstering their capacity to confront complex security challenges.
Pakistan has faced a rise in terrorist activities since the Taliban’s return to Afghanistan in 2021, especially in border provinces like KP and Balochistan. Despite regional tensions with India, militant attacks have seen only a slight increase recently.
According to data from the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS), there was a 5% uptick in militant incidents in May 2025, with 85 attacks recorded compared to 81 in April. While the numbers indicate a modest rise, overall security remains relatively contained amid ongoing regional tensions.
