RIYADH: Saudi Arabia has announced plans to host an inclusive conference focused on Yemen’s southern question, responding to an appeal from Dr. Rashad Al-Alimi, President of the Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council.
The initiative aims to bring together all southern political forces on a unified platform to explore fair and lasting solutions.
The move follows Dr. Al-Alimi’s request for Riyadh’s support in facilitating dialogue among southern factions, allowing them to openly discuss their concerns and aspirations within the framework of Yemen’s wider political process. The conference is intended to encourage consensus-building and lay the groundwork for a peaceful resolution.
In a statement issued on December 30, 2025, Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted that the southern issue is deeply rooted in Yemen’s history and social fabric. It stressed that meaningful dialogue, conducted as part of a comprehensive political settlement, remains the only realistic path toward resolving the matter.
The Kingdom called on all southern stakeholders to engage constructively in the conference and contribute to developing a unified vision that reflects the legitimate demands of the southern population, while also supporting long-term peace and stability across Yemen.
Saudi officials emphasized that hosting the conference reflects the close ties between Saudi Arabia and Yemen, as well as their shared commitment to safeguarding security, stability, and political progress during a critical period for the country.
The southern issue has long been shaped by historical grievances and social complexities, with past efforts focusing on dialogue, political inclusion, and respect for Yemen’s unity as essential steps toward justice and stability in the southern regions.
By backing this initiative, Saudi Arabia reaffirmed its role as a key facilitator and partner in international efforts to support Yemen’s journey toward reconciliation and lasting peace.
