KSE-100 closes lower amid volatility at PSX

KARACHI: The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) wrapped up the trading day with a decline in the KSE-100 index, which experienced a turbulent session characterized by significant fluctuations.

The index dropped by 130 points, ending at 171,073, down from the previous close of 171,204. Throughout the trading session, the KSE-100 index swung between gains and losses, reaching an intraday high of 171,867 before losing momentum and closing lower.

Market analysts noted that trading activity remained cautious, with many investors adopting a wait-and-see approach. A total of 562 companies’ shares were traded, out of which 151 saw their prices rise, while 287 experienced declines, indicating widespread selling pressure.

According to market experts, the limited activity was primarily driven by ongoing uncertainty regarding the bidding process for the 75% stake in Pakistan International Airlines (PIA). This ambiguity negatively affected investor confidence and restrained fresh buying initiatives.

Analysts further suggested that until there is greater clarity on key issues, including privatization efforts and related developments, the KSE-100 is likely to continue its range-bound and volatile movement.
