KARACHI: University of Karachi Professor Arif Khan Saqi has confirmed that he has reconciled with Konain Shah, the man accused of assaulting him in a case registered in Karachi.
Speaking to the media, Professor Saqi said the two had met at his residence, where Konain apologised over the incident. He said he had accepted the apology and forgiven the accused.
Saqi added that Konain’s father had also visited his residence on several occasions. He further said compensation had been provided for the damage caused to his nephew’s car during the incident.
Sources said Konain Shah met the professor at his home on Sunday night and sought forgiveness. The accused, who is currently out on bail, was subsequently forgiven by Professor Saqi.
What happened
The incident took place near Safoora Chowrangi after a collision involving a double-cabin vehicle and an online taxi in which Professor Saqi was travelling. The taxi was owned by his nephew, Waheedur Rehman.
According to Saqi’s earlier account, the double-cabin vehicle was leaving a parking area when its guards signalled the taxi to stop. The vehicle subsequently reversed and collided with the taxi.
Saqi said he asked the occupants of the double-cabin vehicle to compensate the taxi driver for the damage.
He alleged that the son of a hotel owner then stepped out of the vehicle, fired two shots and struck him with the butt of a pistol before resorting to aerial firing.
The professor further alleged that he and his nephew were taken to a hotel, where they were subjected to physical assault.
Police later registered a case at Sachal Police Station on Saqi’s complaint against Konain Shah and other suspects. The FIR included charges relating to attempted murder, assault, causing injuries and wrongful confinement.
