KARACHI: The Karachi Water and Sewerage Services Improvement Project (KWSSIP), in collaboration with the National Rural Support Programme (NRSP), celebrated International Women’s Day in Soba Nagar, District Central, Karachi.
The event highlighted the crucial role of women in community-led development, particularly in addressing water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) challenges through social mobilization.
Soba Nagar is one of the katchi abadis where KWSSIP is working on water supply and sewerage rehabilitation, while NRSP is supporting sustainable community mobilization.
The celebration brought together women from WASH committees and Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) who have been actively engaged in improving living conditions in their neighborhood.
The event was marked by vibrant decorations, with colorful balloons symbolizing hope and unity. A highlight of the celebration was the cake-cutting ceremony, which took place amid enthusiastic applause and cheers from the participants.
“We are now successfully part of the social mobilization structure in our underserved area. This initiative has given us confidence and courage, showing that we, too, can work for the betterment of our community. We feel more empowered and passionate about improving our lives,” shared a group of women at the event.
NRSP representatives, including Saina Ali and Rizwan Jaleel, joined the celebrations, acknowledging the contributions of women in driving positive change. The event reinforced the commitment to fostering gender-inclusive community engagement, ensuring that women continue to play a pivotal role in shaping a healthier and more resilient future for their communities.
