Lahore becomes world’s second most polluted city yet again

LAHORE: Despite repeated mitigation measures, Punjab continues to grapple with severe smog, with Lahore once more emerging as the world’s second most polluted city.

Data from the Punjab Environment Department shows Lahore’s particulate matter (PM) level soaring to 414, placing the provincial capital firmly in the hazardous category.

Air quality in several other Punjab cities also remained alarming. Khanewal reported a PM level of 412, while Faisalabad and Multan followed with readings of 354 and 342, respectively.

On the global Air Quality Index rankings, Lahore secured the second spot with an AQI of 330. New Delhi, India’s capital, topped the list, recording an even higher particulate matter concentration of 450.
