LAHORE: Punjab government on Friday declared yesterday’s blast in DHA Lahore as an accident, ruling out any chance of terrorism.
Addressing a press conference in Lahore, Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah said that the power blast that claimed eight lives and injured over 20 was caused by a cylinder explosion.
He said that soon after the blast there was differences in the opinion of investigators, some declaring it as a result of cylinder blast and some saying it caused by explosive materials.
He added that the reports of forensic laboratory was received today, which confirmed that no traces of explosives was found from the site of the explosion. The report confirmed that the blast was an accident and was not an act of terrorism.
He added that the blast was caused by gas leakage and cylinders’ explosion. He added that FIR of the blast was registered.
He announced that strict action would be taken against those selling substandard gas cylinders.
Regarding yesterday’s rumors about another blast in Gulberg, he said that some private TV channels aired baseless news of another blast in Gulberg without conformation that led to panic among the people of the city.
He added that due to the irresponsible reporting panic spread among people. However, he lauded the role of media in the ongoing war against terrorism.
To a question about PSL final, he said that a meeting would be held regarding holding PSL final in Lahore which would deliberated over all aspects of the issue.
