LAHORE: Following the success of the Orange Line train and electric buses, Lahore is set to introduce electric trams to its public transportation network. The first of these trams has recently arrived from China and is expected to begin service along Canal Road.
Sources within the Punjab government confirmed that, after the implementation of the Metro Bus, Orange Line train, and electric buses, the city will soon witness electric trams operational on its streets.
The imported tram, composed of three connected units, operates entirely on electricity. It requires only about 10 minutes of charging to cover a distance of approximately 25 to 27 kilometers and can carry up to 250 passengers at a time.
Currently, the assembly of the tram is underway at the Ali Town Depot. In the initial phase, the tram will serve as a pilot project to assess its performance and feasibility in the city’s transportation system.
