The toxic fog continues ruling Lahore and adjoining areas for the third straight day with Meteorological Department declaring artificial rain the only solution to get rid the menace.

Thousands of Lahorites complained about breathing difficulties and irritable eyes as the thick toxic smog continues for the last many days.

The dangerous “fine particulate matter” exceeding 104 micograms per cubic metre are reported to be over four times the level recommended by World Health Organization.

Eye specialists say toxic smog resulting in reddish, flowing and itchy eyes make it imperative to save the eyes from the dust and smog. They also asked motorcyclists to use mask and glasses and to cleanse their eyes with water reportedly. They also asked children and elderly people to take care in particular.

Chief meteorologist of Meteorological Department Muhammad Riaz has said that the smog situation will continue for another 4-5 days. He also called artificial rain the only solution to get rid of the toxic smog. Elaborating he said that a mixture of sodium chloride, silver iodide, and other chemicals sprayed from the height of 2000-4000 feet makes  clouds heavier by turning it into ice crystals which in turn results in rain.
