Lahore’s Transport Engineer Nida Saleh Becomes Pakistan’s First Female Train Driver

LAHORE: Nida Saleh, a transport engineer from Lahore, has made history by becoming Pakistan’s first female train driver. She started her career as an engineer on the Orange Line Train and has been operating the train for the past eight months.

She shared that she holds a degree in transport engineering from an engineering university. Coming from a business family, her father advised her to leave the train industry and focus on managing the family business. However, she was determined to pursue a different path, and that determination led her to become a train driver.

Nida mentioned that she underwent three months of training with Chinese experts. Initially, she felt some nervousness while operating the train for the first time. She also added that seeing her drive the train inspires many people, and more young women are now seeking training to become train drivers after being influenced by her example.

Nida Saleh expressed her happiness and pride at becoming Pakistan’s first female train driver. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and Minister of Transport Bilal Akbar congratulated her and called her a source of pride for the nation.
