WEB DESK: Buckingham Palace is set to host an extraordinary exhibition next year, shining a spotlight on the fashion legacy of the late Queen Elizabeth II, who reigned for 70 years.
UK designer Erdem Moralioglu described the queen’s wardrobe as a snapshot of a long life devoted to duty, likening it to a time capsule that captures a specific and significant period in history.
The exhibition, titled Queen Elizabeth II: Her Life in Style, will feature around 200 items worn by the queen throughout her 96 years, with half of these pieces being showcased for the first time, according to a statement from the Royal Collection. The display will also include design sketches, some annotated by the designers and the queen herself.
Moralioglu, alongside fellow British designers Richard Quinn and Christopher Kane, will contribute to the exhibition, which will debut at The King’s Gallery in Buckingham Palace this coming April.
Noteable Items On Display
Among the notable items on display will be an apple-green gown designed by Norman Hartnell, worn by the queen at a state banquet hosted at the UK embassy in Washington in 1957 for President Dwight D. Eisenhower. Visitors will also have the chance to see her iconic wedding dress and coronation gown, both also designed by Hartnell, as well as a bridesmaid dress she wore in 1934.
The exhibit will include practical pieces from her personal wardrobe, such as tailored riding outfits and her signature scarves. Unique items like a clear plastic raincoat by couturier Hardy Amies, created during the 1960s and described as strikingly modern for its time, will also be on view.
Scheduled to run from April 10 to October 18, 2026, tickets for the exhibition are now on sale. Queen Elizabeth II passed away in September 2022.
