Leaked Video Scandal: FIA Inquiry Report Sought Within 3 Weeks

ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court of Pakistan on Tuesday directed Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to submit an inquiry report into leaked judge’s video scandal case within a period of three weeks.

A three-judge Apex Court bench headed by Chief Justice Asif Saeed Khosa took up the video scandal case that alleges Arshad Malik of ruling against former prime minister Nawaz Sharif under “external pressureā€.

While presenting his arguments, Attorney General Anwar Mansoor Khan said that submitted pleas requested the court for constituting a judicial commission.

He said: “A request has surfaced which demands action against Judge Arshad Malik. Truth is before the court and the judge has also submitted his affidavit”.

Citing section 20 of Electronic-crime act, Attorney General said that the alleged judge can be imprisoned and fined since FIA had filed a case against the former in accordance with cybercrime act.

He apprised the court on arrest of Mian Tariq, the key man who recorded the leaked video of Accountability Judge at the time.

“Landcruiser has been found with Mr Tariq. He also has more such videos of the judge. The investigation is underway as FIA is attempting to locate the culprits”, he added.

Chief Justice Asif Khosa expressed concern that Arshad Malik might be guilty of something which led him to get blackmailed.

CJ Asif Khosa reiterated that as a person who holds the designation of a prestigious judge, Arshad Malik should not have done what he did.

‘Audio and Visuals were recorded separately’

“The audio and visuals in the leaked video were recorded separately, however, they were joined together and displayed in the news conference after being edited. This mixing of two media means that true content was barred from being viewed”, CJ Asif Khosa stated.

At this, Attorney General Mansoor Khan said that authorities were trying to recover the video which was aired by PML-N during a news conference.

Chief Justice put forward six possibilities for concluding the case.

“We can either opt for FIA, NAB laws, rules in conventions Pakistan, PEMRA laws or government commission. The last option is that the court itself settles on a judgment”, CJ said.
