Lebanon–Israel ceasefire talks set for tuesday in Washington

WASHINGTON: Ceasefire negotiations between Lebanon and Israel are scheduled to take place on Tuesday in Washington, D.C., marking a significant diplomatic step amid ongoing regional tensions.

According to British media reports, Israel has made it clear that the Iran-backed group Hezbollah will not be included in the negotiations.

The development follows reports that Lebanon and Israel established their first contact ahead of the talks, facilitated through their respective ambassadors in Washington. The Lebanese presidency described this initial communication as an important diplomatic breakthrough after recent escalations.

Sources indicate that discussions at the United States Department of State will focus on formalizing a ceasefire and setting a framework for further negotiations.

The talks come in the wake of renewed violence, as Israel carried out strikes in Lebanon following the Iran–US ceasefire, resulting in significant casualties and further heightening tensions in the region.
