Legal Notice Issued to The Great Indian Kapil Show Over Controversial Rabindranath Tagore Parody

WEB DESK: Legal notice has issued to the Great Indian Kapil Show upon Controversial Rabindranath Tagore Parody.

The popular comedy show The Great Indian Kapil Show has found itself at the center of a major controversy after a recent episode sparked outrage within the Bengali community. The uproar stems from a parody of the iconic Bengali poem Ekla Chalo Re, written by Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore, in which host Kapil Sharma and co-star Krishna Abhishek humorously altered the poem’s title to “Pichla Chalo.” The change perceived as disrespectful by many, leading to widespread condemnation.

Prominent figures from the Bengali arts and literary community, including renowned poet Sujato Bandyopadhyay and musician Indradeep Das Gupta, have criticized the show for crossing the line between humor and cultural insensitivity. Bandyopadhyay expressed that humor, when poorly executed, can easily veer into disrespect, particularly when it targets revered figures like Tagore.

In response to the controversy, the Bango Bhashi Mahasabha Foundation, a prominent cultural organization, has issued a legal notice to the producers of the show, accusing them of encroaching upon cultural and religious sensitivities. The Foundation has demanded an apology and clarification from the show’s creators.
