LHC restrains Punjab govt from taking action Careem, Uber

LAHORE: Lahore High Court (LHC) on Friday restrained Punjab government from taking action against the private app-based ridesharing services including Careem and Uber.

The provincial government action against the taxi service has been challenged in the high court. Justice Waheed of LHC heard the petition filed by a citizen.

The petitioner took the plea that until legislation were not carried out regarding taxi services, no action can be taken again the app-based ridesharing services.

He submitted that there was no moral and legal justification of action against the services in the absence of relevant law. He pleaded the court to restrain the provincial government from taking any action against the services.

The court while restraining the Punjab government from taking action against the services adjourned the hearing of the petition.

It is to be mentioned here that last week Punjab government has initiated action against the app-based ridesharing services inlcuding Careem, Ubder and A-One Taxi terming the services illegal.
