LHC To Hear Pleas Against Sharifs Conviction Today

Lahore (August 08, 2018): Lahore High Court on Wednesday will hear the pleas against the conviction of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif his daughter Maryam Nawaz and son in law, Captain Retired Safdar.

Earlier on July 04, Chief justice of the Lahore High Court (LHC) formed a full bench to hear a petition seeking the revocation of the punishment handed to the Sharif family members in the Avenfield properties’ corruption reference.The petitioner pleads that the former prime minister and others were convicted by a court which has no jurisdiction because the law under which it (court) has been created is a dead law.

He further states that the high court should suspend the operation of the accountability court’s judgment for being a court established under a non-existent law.

The LHC chief justice formed a full, three-member bench comprising Justice Shams Mehmood Mirza, Justice Sajid Mehmood Sethi and Justice Mujahid Mustaqeem.The hearing on Dogar’s petition will take place on August 8(today).

Earlier on July  11, a plea against the sentence of former Prime Minister, Nawaz Sharif his daughter Maryam Nawaz and Captain Retried Safdar was lodged in Lahore High Court by Lawyers’ Foundation for Justice through a renowned advocate, AK Dogar.

Three-Time premier was sentenced according to such a law, which become void after the 18th amendment.

LHC was requested to the declared punishment of Sharif Family Nul and void.

On July 13, Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz were arrested and shifted to jail after they landed at Lahore’s Allama Iqbal International Airport.

Nawaz Sharif was sentenced to 11 years in prison by National Accountability Bureau (NAB) court over his family’s purchase of luxury apartments in London, whereas, his daughter Maryam was sentenced to seven years in prison.

On July 06, former prime minister Nawaz Sharif was sentenced to 10 years in prison and slapped a £8 million fine, while his daughter Maryam was sentenced to seven years with a £2 million fine in the Avenfield properties reference.

Nawaz’s son-in-law Capt (retd) Safdar was given a one year sentence.

Moreover, Nawaz was fined £8 million and Maryam £2 million.

On July  09, Captain Retired Safdar, the son in law of former Prime Minister, Nawaz Sharif is shifted to Adyala Jail.

Captain retired Safdar was presented in the court of Judge Muhammad Bashir.

Strict security measures were in place outside the Federal Judicial Complex in G-11 sector of Islamabad, where the accountability court is situated. Police officials, the elite force, and rangers were deployed outside the building.
