PSL 3: Zalmi Eliminates Gladiators After Nail Biting Contest

Lahore (March 20, 2018): Peshawar Zalmi qualified to play the second qualifier match against Karachi Kings after defeating Quetta Gladiators by one run in a nail-biting thriller on Tuesday. 

In pursuit of 158, Gladiators wobbled early as they lost Asad Shafique on the very first ball of their innings. Hassan Ali was the bowler who gave Zalmi early breakthrough.

In his second over, Hassan picked Tom Kohler-Cadmore to dent the momentum of the chase.

After two quick wickets, Sarfraz and Nawaz led recovery. Both players kept the things under control with also ensuring to keep scoreboard ticking. Both batsmen added 63 runs for the third wicket. At time, when Gladiators were taking match away from Zalmi, Sammy introduce Sameen Gul. And, the right-arm pacer didn’t disappoint his skipper as he removed Sarfraz and Nawaz in consecutive deliveries.

To add insult to injuries, Umaid Asif repeated the episode for Zalmi when he claimed two important wickets of Rile Rossouw and Mahmudullah in 16th over.

Following this debacle, Gladiators failed to make recovery and eventually lost the match by 1 run.

Lahore (March 20, 2018): An stunning fifty of Liam Dawson lifted Peshawar Zalmi to 157 in the first elimination match of Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2018 against Quetta Gladiators at the Gaddafi Stadium.

Peshawar had a wobbly start, losing in-form Kamran Akmal for a three-ball duck to Rahat Ali, after Quetta opted to bowl first in swinging conditions.

West Indian Andre Fletcher was dismissed soon after for 1, by Mir Hamza. But Tamim Iqbal and Mohammad Hafeez led Peshawar’s recovery, taking the team past 50 without any further loss before Hafeez was bowled by Mahmudullah for 25 off 14.

Peshawar were sent reeling when Tamim dashed down the pitch, only to be caught by a fumbling Kohler-Cadmore in the deep for 27 off 29.

Perera took the night’s second great catch to send Saad Nasim back to the dugout for 9 off 13, as Peshawar struggled at 86-5.

Dawson’s resistance, however, steadied Peshawar, as he smashed 50 off just 29 balls to end Quetta’s dominance in the game.

Skipper Sammy, who walked out to bat to a standing ovation from the crowd, struggled to score, falling to Rahat Ali for 2 off 5 balls.

Two balls later, Rahat Ali dismissed Dawson after the spinner smashed 62 off 35 balls. The left-arm pacer finished with 4 wickets from 16 runs.

Zalmi lose first wicket of Karman Akmal at the score of 9. Rahat Ali gets Kamran Akmal. He plays it on to his stumps. Akmal is gone for a duck Peshawar are 9/1. It was a brilliant delivery that was going away from the right-hander but Akmal missed to execute the cut properly and played it on to his stumps.

Opener Tamim Iqbal slogged-sweeped two fours, taking Peshawar to 8-0 off the first four balls of the match before rain stopped play and forced the teams off the field.

Lahore (March 20, 2018): The Pakistan Super League (PSL) has returned to Pakistan as in first eliminator on Tuesday a nail biting contest will be expected between Peshawar Zalmi at Qaddafi Stadium Lahore as both teams have reached in the stadium.

The cricket lovers are anxiously waiting for a big contest and foreign players in action after long time when the final of second edition of the PSL was played at Qaddafi Stadium between the same rivalry.

Today’s encounter is a do-or-die for both: the losing team will get eliminated from the competition, while the winning team will play Karachi Kings in Lahore tomorrow (March 21).

Both Peshawar and Quetta have won 5 and lost 5 matches in this season’s league stage, but Peshawar edged out Quetta on Net Run Rate to get the third spot on the points table.
