Former CJP, Justice Nasirul Mulk Named As Caretaker PM

Islamabad(May  28, 2018): Former Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Nasir-ul- Mulk has been named as caretaker Prime Minister on Monday.

The Announcement was made in a joint presser by PM Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and Opposition Leader, Khursheed Shah.

Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi while addressing the joint press conference said that we have selected a candidate for caretaker premier who will prove to play a democratic role in the upcoming general election.

“It was a challenge for all of us and all names that were put forth were credible and respectable individuals,” he added. “We tried to make a decision which will be acceptable to the nation and Parliament,” added PM.Profile of Former CJP, Justice Retried Nasirul Mulk

Nasir-ul-Mulk was born in tourist locality Swat, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, on 17 August 1950.[7] He hails from a wealthy and politically influential Paracha family in Swat; his father Seth Kamran was a politician who served as Senator in Senate in the 1970s.

After completing high school from Swat, Mulk attended the Jahanzeb College where he attained BA in Fine Arts in 1970. He enrolled in Peshawar University to study law, also the same year.

He excelled well in his law studies and, at one point, his university professors noted him as “talented and a bright student.In 1972, he graduated with LLB in law from the Peshawar University. For his high studies, Mulk went to United Kingdom and was called at the Inner Temple in England where he did his LLM and qualified as bar-at-law in 1976.

Upon returning to Pakistan, Mulk practised law at Peshawar High Court, and briefly tenured as a professor of law at the Peshawar University while practising as a legal practitioner at Peshawar. Mulk was elected as Secretary-General of the Peshawar High Court Bar in 1981.

He later ascended as president of Peshawar High Court Bar in two separate occasions, first electing in 1990 and again in 1993. From 1993–94, Mulk was appointed as an advocate general of the provincial government of Khyber–Pakhtunkhwa, assisting in legal matters and affairs.After meeting qualifications for being a judge, Mulk was ascended as judge at the Peshawar High Court on 6 June 1994—a post he retained until 2004. Mulk was appointed as Chief Justice of Peshawar High Court on 31 July 2004, and moved to Supreme Court of Pakistan in 2005.

Justice Retired Nasirul Mulk took oath of Chief Justice of Pakistan in 2014. He is one of the seven judges who signed a restraining order on Nov 3, 2007, when General (retd) Pervez Musharraf imposed emergency and forcibly sent the judges home.Earlier, Opposition Leader in National Assembly, Khursheed Shah had said that PM and he reached 50-50 Consensus for the caretaker PM.

Khursheed Shah met Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi to finalise the caretaker premier.

Speaking to media after the meeting, Shah remarked that both parties are trying their best to finalise caretaker PM. “Hopefully, there will be consensus on caretaker premier,” he said, adding that they will prove that parliament is superior and that such decisions can be made in parliament.

Both Prime Minister and Opposition leader had agreed to address a joint presser.
