LNG scandal: Shahid Khaqan Abbasi fails to appear before NAB Rawalpindi

RAWALPINDI: Former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on Friday failed to appear before the anti-corruption watchdog for recording statement in a corruption reference filed against misappropriation in Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) terminal contract.

Sources said that Shahid Khaqan Abbasi was currently based abroad so he failed to appear before the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in Rawalpindi.

A letter was also submitted to NAB officials regarding his absence while it was pleaded to fix new date, sources added.

The Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) senior leader was scheduled to record his statement before the anti-corruption watchdog in Rawalpindi on Friday (today).

It is noteworthy to mention here that the-then petroleum minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi signed an agreement for importing Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) from Qatar during PML-N tenure.

He was facing charges of approving Rs220 billion contract for LNG imports and distribution to the company where Abbasi himself was shareholder.
