LAHORE: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has announced that local body elections across Punjab will be held in December 2025 under the Local Government Act 2022.
The decision of the Election Commission says that the municipal elections in Punjab will be held in the last week of December. The Election Commission will hold local elections in Punjab under the 2022 law.A five-member bench led by Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja delivered the verdict after multiple proceedings on the matter of local elections.
The commission stated that the delimitation of constituencies would be completed within two months, allowing timely elections across Punjab later this year.
It may be recalled that a few days ago, on the request of Jamaat-e-Islami, the Lahore High Court had summoned the Advocate General and the Chief Secretary of Punjab for not holding municipal elections in Punjab.
