LONDON: The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, has lauded renowned Pakistani artist Rahat Fateh Ali Khan as a “legend” and a “musical genius,” emphasizing his significant influence on a global scale.
Sajid Khan praised Rahat’s exceptional talent, stating, “Ustad Rahat Fateh Ali Khan is a true legend. I personally enjoy his music. His performance at the Royal Albert Hall alongside prominent Western musicians underscores his remarkable skill.”
He also highlighted Rahat’s role in fostering cultural connectivity, describing him as “a bridge that unites different cultures and generations.”This commendation came during a warm welcome for Rahat and his ensemble at the historic Royal Albert Hall, where Rahat performed in honor of Sir Anwar Pervez’s 90th birthday. Sir Anwar, a prominent British-Pakistani businessman and founder of the Bestway Group, was celebrated at the event.
Notable attendees included former Prime Minister David Cameron, who delivered a speech honoring Sir Anwar, along with Lord Zameer Chauhdary, numerous former Tory ministers, and nearly 1,000 distinguished guests. Over 100 guests traveled from Pakistan to partake in the celebration.The event served as a gathering of prominent figures from politics, business, and culture, united in celebrating Sir Anwar’s legacy and emphasizing music’s unifying power.
