Magnitude 5.9 earthquake shakes various regions of Pakistan

PESHAWAR: A significant 5.9-magnitude earthquake struck parts of Pakistan on Thursday, causing tremors in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and multiple areas across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department’s Seismic Monitoring Center.The earthquake’s epicenter was traced to the Hindu Kush region in Afghanistan, with a depth of approximately 111 kilometers.

Seismic activity was reported in cities such as Peshawar, Lower Dir, Upper Dir, Malakand, Bajaur, Mohmand, Shabqadar, Charsadda, and Parachinar. Additional tremors were felt in Nowshera, Hangu, Kohat, as well as in Mansehra, Abbottabad, Swat, and Attock.

In Punjab, residents experienced the quake in Mianwali, Chakwal, Talagang, Kallar Kahar, and nearby localities, while Multan also reported shaking. The strong tremors in Islamabad and Rawalpindi prompted many residents to evacuate outdoors for safety.In Azad Jammu and Kashmir, inhabitants of Neelum Valley and Dhirkot also felt the seismic activity.At this time, no reports of casualties or property damage have been received.
