Maharashtra Police pressurise Bollywood stars for ‘silence’ on Pakistan-India conflict

WEB DESK: In the wake of escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, several leading Bollywood stars—including Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan, Salman Khan, and Ranveer Singh have chosen to remain silent, avoiding public statements amid the sensitive geopolitical climate.

This reticence sparked widespread discussion on social media platforms, with many questioning why these high-profile personalities chose not to voice their opinions.

Adding fuel to the controversy, the Maharashtra Police shared a viral Instagram story featuring images of these celebrities alongside a pointed caption: “Dear celebrities, it’s safe now. You can return to Instagram, no risk of upsetting your international fanbase.” The post was widely perceived as a veiled critique, implying that Bollywood stars maintained silence to avoid alienating their global audiences or inviting controversy.

The social media response was swift, with users debating whether celebrities were deliberately avoiding political statements to safeguard their careers or personal safety. Critics argued that such silence could be perceived as indifference to national issues, while supporters contended that public figures often choose to stay neutral in sensitive matters.

In a related incident, Salman Khan faced criticism after he posted—and later deleted—a message on X, “Thank God for the ceasefire…” The post appeared shortly after India and Pakistan announced a ceasefire, but Salman’s omission of any explicit condemnation of Pakistan drew ire from some Indian social media users. Recognizing the controversy, he swiftly removed the post, possibly to avoid further backlash.
