WASHINGTON: A powerful explosion at an industrial site in Tennessee that manufactures explosive materials has caused several fatalities, while many others remain missing.
Emergency services responded swiftly to the scene after the blast, and authorities have issued warnings for residents and visitors to avoid the area.
Local officials confirmed via their social media channels that the incident took place at “Equirate Energetic Systems” in the Buck Snort region of Hickman County.
A statement from the authorities read, “Emergency personnel are currently on-site working to manage the situation. Citizens are advised to stay clear of the area and adhere to guidance provided by officials.”
The Hickman County Mayor’s office has not yet confirmed the number of casualties or the cause of the explosion, stating that investigations are ongoing.
Meanwhile, Sheriff Chris Davis of Humphries County informed national media that there have been “a number of fatalities,” and that “several individuals are unaccounted for.”
NBC News quoted Sheriff Davis saying, “We are currently trying to locate multiple missing persons, and some of the deceased have been identified.”
