TORONTO: Former central banker Mark Carney won the race to become leader of Canada’s ruling Liberal Party and will succeed Justin Trudeau as prime minister.
Former Governor of the Bank of England and member of Canada’s Liberal Party, Mark Carney, has been elected as the next Prime Minister of Canada, winning by a large majority in the election.
Mark Carney, the former governors of the Bank of Canada and the Bank of England, has no political experience compared to other candidates for the prime ministership.
During a debate last month for the Canadian prime minister election, he claimed, “I have experience in dealing with crises.”
59 years old, Carney became the first non-British person to hold the position of governor of the Bank of England when he assumed the role in 2013.
