Marriage Hall Owners Call-off Strike After Ghani Assurance

KARACHI: After the assurance by the Sindh Local Bodies Minister, Saeed Ghani, the owners of marriage halls in Karachi have called-off their Sunday’s strike.

After meeting with Saeed Ghani, talking to media Rana Raees, the president of marriage hall association said, “The strike call was taken back, after the Sindh’s LB Minister, Saeed Ghani, assured them not to demolish their halls”.

He said that it was not appropriate to demolish marriage halls just on notice and they should have been given time to present their stance in court.

On the occasion, Saeed Ghani has given them assurance for assistance as per law.

Earlier in the day, marriage hall owners had decided to shut down marriage halls from Jan 27 onwards for an indefinite period of time over notice issued by the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA).

Ghani had announced that the provincial government had decided to halt the anti-encroachment operation against Karachi marriage halls.

As Saeed Ghani, the Karachi mayor Waseem Akhtar also announced to not implement on Supreme Court orders to demolish 500 illegal buildings suggesting to the Sindh government that it should file a review petition in the Supreme Court.

“The buildings marked in the order have not been build on encroached land,” clarified Akhtar in a press conference.

Replying to a question he said, “I can’t demolish 500 buildings either contempt of court filed against him or no.”

No legal building or wedding hall would be demolished, he said and requested the provincial government to approach the apex court.
