LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz officially unveiled the newly renovated and expanded area at Wagah Border.
The inauguration ceremony, which saw the participation of Senior Minister Mariam Aurangzeb and Lahore Corps Commander, among other dignitaries, celebrated the significant enhancements made to one of Pakistan’s most iconic national sites. The revamped arena now boasts a seating capacity of 25,000, greatly improving the experience for visitors attending the daily flag-lowering ceremony.
Sources indicated that the project also features substantial new developments at the Joint Check Post Wagah. These include architecturally inspired structures reminiscent of a railway station, displays of military hardware, and a dedicated theme park designed to enrich visitors’ overall experience.
A new Pakistan Museum has been established within the complex, highlighting the nation’s history from independence to the present day. The site also includes additional administrative offices, barracks for Rangers personnel, food courts, and expanded parking areas to accommodate more visitors.
As part of the modernization efforts, a new ceremonial entryway has been built at Bab-e-Azadi, designed in the style of the Alamgiri Gate of Lahore’s historic Shahi Qila. Additionally, the national flag at Wagah has been raised to a new height standing at 139 meters, up from 115 meters making it the tallest flag in South Asia and the seventh tallest in Asia, according to officials.
