LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Friday inaugurated the Pakistan International Auto Show 2026 at the Lahore Expo Centre, bringing together local and international players from the automotive sector.
The three-day exhibition, being held from September 18 to 20, features automobiles, motorcycles, electric and semi-electric vehicles, mobility solutions and locally manufactured auto parts across four halls of the Expo Centre.
During her visit, Maryam met representatives and industrialists from the automobile industry and acknowledged their contribution to economic activity and industrial development.
Representatives of the electric vehicle sector highlighted the Punjab government’s Green Taxi and CM Bike schemes, while tractor manufacturers welcomed the Green Tractor Scheme and its role in supporting local production.
The chief minister visited different stalls and examined a range of vehicles and automotive technologies. She showed particular interest in an electric ambulance and also viewed Suzuki’s biogas-powered model.
She interacted with representatives and foreign experts at various stalls, including those of Honda and Suzuki, and sought information about the products and technologies on display. She also appreciated locally manufactured automotive products.
PAAPAM Chairman Usman Aslam Malik, Chief Organiser Syed Nabeel Hashmi and other officials briefed the chief minister about the exhibition and developments in the automotive sector.
The event has attracted 150 exhibitors, including 44 international and 43 local exhibitors, according to reports. Major brands and companies participating in the exhibition include Suzuki, Kia, GAC, Chery, Sazgar, BYD, G-Tour, Hyundai and Honda.
The exhibition is showcasing conventional vehicles alongside newer technologies, including electric mobility and locally produced automotive components.
Maryam said the automotive industry remained an important contributor to industrialisation, investment and employment in Pakistan.
She said the Punjab government would continue supporting local manufacturing, investment, technological advancement and innovation, adding that the auto show could help expand business-to-business links and create opportunities for investment and technology transfer.
