Maryam, Safdar Arrive at Accountability Court, Hearing Underway

Islamabad (October 19, 2017): Maryam Nawaz, the daughter of ousted prime minister Nawaz Sharif, and her husband Capt (r) Muhammad Safdar have reached the Accountability Court which is hearing corruption cases against her, her husband, father Nawaz Sharif, and brothers Hussain and Hassan Nawaz.

The couple reached the court separately with Maryam arrived a little earlier than Safdar. Maryam reached the Federal Judicial Complex from the Islamabad airport, where she landed early morning from Lahore on a special plane. Later Safdar separately reached the Judicial Complex, which houses the Court.

She and other members of her family mentioned above are likely to be indicted by the Judge of the Accountability Court Muhammad Bashir today in corruption references filed by National Accountability Bureau (NAB) as per the verdict of the Supreme Court in Panamagate case on July 28.In this context, Accountability Court ordered for fool proof security measures outside Judicial Complex. Politically motivated persons including partisan lawyers should not be allowed to enter the court.

Accountability court judge Muhammad Bashir has ordered that a Quick Response Force should be stationed outside the court to check any untoward incident in the courtroom.Meanwhile SSP Operation has arrived to review the security outside the Court. The team of NAB prosecutors was allowed to enter the Court after checking their names from the list of persons allowed to enter the court.

Leader of ruling PMLN Mohsin Ranjha was stopped from entering the Judicial Complex where the Court is housed over which hard talk ensued between him and the policemen who informed him that his name is not in the list. Who prepares the list, a furious Ranjha asked the police.

Meanwhile, Senator Asif Kirmani and federal Minister CADD Tariq Fazal Chaudhary have aso arrived at the court.

On the last hearing on October 13 the Court heard the references against the members of Sharif family adjourned the hearing till October 19 without conducting any proceedings.

The court had adjourned the hearing soon after the proceedings began after the clash between the police and lawyers outside the court, during which a lawyer received head injury when police resorted to baton charging.
