Massive fire destroys 170 buildings in Japan.

WEB DESK: A massive fire has erupted in the Japanese city of Oita, consuming a significant area and causing widespread destruction. Over 170 buildings have been reduced to ruins, and one resident is reported missing amidst the chaos.

The blaze originated in the Sagano-Seki district of Oita city on Tuesday at approximately 5:40 pm, as reported by the British news agency Reuters. Prompt emergency measures were taken, with around 175 residents evacuated to safety shelters.

Extending its devastation beyond residential zones, the fire has spread into nearby forested mountainous regions and remains uncontained. Aerial footage captured scenes of destroyed homes, accompanied by thick plumes of smoke billowing into the sky. This particular town in Oita is a well-known hub for producing the highly regarded “Seki Mackerel” fish.

Authorities are still investigating the cause of this inferno. Meanwhile, Japanese Prime Minister Sanai Takaichi announced via Twitter that a military firefighting helicopter was deployed upon the governor’s request to assist in containment efforts. Rescue and relief operations continue to address the needs of affected citizens.
