Massive fire erupts at plastic manufacturing facility in Karachi’s landhi 

KARACHI: A large-scale fire has broken out at a plastic manufacturing plant located in Karachi’s Landhi Export Processing Zone, with officials classifying it as a third-degree fire.

The blaze has severely damaged a significant section of the factory’s ground floor and has spread to an adjacent warehouse. Authorities have also indicated that the fire is now approaching a nearby industrial unit. To prevent further damage, workers inside that facility have been evacuated as a precaution, while firefighting teams are actively spraying water to contain the flames.

The Karachi Fire Department has responded with a fleet of 10 fire engines, supported by water tankers and snorkels. However, some response vehicles faced delays due to heavy traffic congestion in the industrial area, hampering immediate firefighting efforts.Efforts are underway to secure clear access routes for emergency services in the Landhi. Sindh’s Inspector General of Police has directed SSP Malir and SP Traffic to assist in clearing roads and maintaining security around the site.

Sindh Rangers personnel arrived on the scene shortly after the incident, joining firefighting and rescue operations. Rangers have deployed additional personnel to assist in containment efforts and to manage traffic flow around the affected area, ensuring safety and security.

A Rangers spokesperson emphasized that priority remains on safeguarding human lives and preventing the fire from spreading further.

Hydrant operations in Landhi and Sherpao have been activated, with the Karachi Water Corporation ensuring an uninterrupted water supply. Several additional water tankers have been dispatched and will continue their efforts until the fire is fully extinguished.

Fortunately, no casualties have been reported so far. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.The Sindh Chief Minister has taken notice of the incident and has directed officials to submit a detailed report to the Karachi Commissioner. Emergency measures are being coordinated by the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation and fire services to ensure a swift response.

Authorities have also ordered a comprehensive inquiry into the incident and are working to provide immediate assistance to affected workers and their families.
