Met Office forecasts cold, dry weather to continue across the country

WEB DESK: Cold and dry weather is anticipated across most parts of the country this Friday, with northern regions likely to encounter partly cloudy conditions, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).

The Met Office has forecast foggy conditions during the morning and night in the plains of Punjab and upper Sindh, potentially reducing visibility and causing travel disruptions. Drivers, especially on highways and motorways, are advised to exercise caution under such conditions.

Meanwhile, central and southern districts of Balochistan are expected to remain partly cloudy, though significant rainfall is not predicted for these areas.

Over the past 24 hours, cold and dry weather dominated much of the country, with northern regions bearing the brunt of severe cold. Several areas reported extremely low temperatures, underscoring the intensity of the ongoing winter season.

Leh recorded the lowest temperature at minus 10 degrees Celsius. Other frigid readings included minus 6 degrees in Astore, minus 5 degrees in Gupis, and minus 4 degrees in Skardu, Hunza, and Qalat. Temperatures in Kalam, Gilgit, Quetta, and Dir dropped to minus 3 degrees Celsius.

The PMD has urged citizens, particularly in northern regions, to take necessary precautions in light of the harsh weather. People have been advised to limit non-essential travel and protect themselves against extreme cold conditions.

Weather officials indicated that the cold spell is likely to persist in the coming days, particularly at higher altitudes, as winter continues to tighten its grip across the region.
