Met office predicts rain, thunderstorms across several regions

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast rain accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms in parts of the country from Monday evening through Tuesday, while hot and humid conditions are expected to continue in most other areas.

According to the Met Office, rainfall is likely in Kashmir, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, northeastern Punjab, eastern Sindh, and Gilgit-Baltistan.

The PMD has also cautioned that heavy downpours could trigger landslides in hilly regions and cause flash flooding in local streams and nullahs, particularly in vulnerable areas of upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir.

During the past 24 hours, rain with gusty winds and thunderstorms was reported in parts of upper Punjab, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Barkhan district in Balochistan, and Gilgit-Baltistan.

Recorded rainfall included Okara (29 mm), Narowal (23 mm), Sahiwal (19 mm), Sheikhupura (11 mm), Gujranwala (9 mm), Faisalabad (8 mm), Lahore Airport (4 mm), Lahore City (3 mm), Hafizabad (3 mm), Sialkot City (3 mm), Sialkot Airport (1 mm), Jhang (2 mm), Kot Addu (1 mm), and Sargodha City (1 mm) in Punjab. In Balochistan, Barkhan received 13 mm of rain. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa recorded 5 mm at D.I. Khan Airport, 4 mm in Pattan, and 2 mm each in Kalam and Malam Jabba. In Gilgit-Baltistan, Gilgit received 3 mm, while Chilas and Skardu recorded 2 mm each, and Hunza received 1 mm of rainfall.
