ISLAMABAD: A severe cold wave continues to impact significant regions of Pakistan, accompanied by snowfall, rain, and frigid winds that are heightening winter conditions. The Meteorological Department has issued warnings indicating that the cold weather, along with intermittent rain and snowfall, will persist in the upcoming days.
The second snowfall of the winter season is ongoing in various areas of Balochistan, including Quetta, contributing to an increase in cold intensity. Snowfall has also been reported in Kalat, Mastung, Pishin, Qila Saifullah, Ziarat, Qila Abdullah, and Chaman.
Karachiites are dealing with cold weather and icy winds that amplify the chill, with the minimum temperature recorded at 10 degrees Celsius, according to the Met Department. Officials anticipate that the cold spell in Karachi will last until the end of January, with dry weather expected over the next 24 hours, although colder nights are likely.
cold and partly cloudy weather is expected in most parts of Sindh districts, with rain anticipated in Sukkur, Larkana, Jacobabad, and Dadu.
Lahore also remains affected by cold conditions due to cloudy weather and chilly winds, with temperatures dropping to a minimum of 8 degrees Celsius. Light rain is forecasted tonight or tomorrow, which may intensify the cool atmosphere in the city.
Most districts in Punjab are also likely to experience cold and partly cloudy weather, with rain expected in Layyah, Bhakkar, Khushab, Mianwali, Sargodha, Sahiwal, Khanpur, Multan, Jhang, Bahawalpur, and Bahawalnagar.
Evening or night rain is forecasted for Rawalpindi, Chakwal, Attock, Jhelum, and Mandi Bahauddin, while Lahore, Kasur, Sialkot, Narowal, Chiniot, and Sheikhupura may also see rain. Additionally, Murree, Galiyat, and the surrounding areas are anticipated to receive rain and snowfall in the afternoon.
Weather In Islamabad and surrounding areas is expected to remain cold and partly cloudy, with potential rain accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms in the evening or night.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, cold and partly cloudy weather is anticipated in most districts, with rain and snowfall expected in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kalam, Shangla, and Kohistan, alongside rain in Battagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Peshawar, and Charsadda, with snowfall in mountainous regions.
Similarly, rain and snowfall on higher elevations are forecasted for Nowshera, Swabi, Malakand, Mardan, Kohat, Kurram, Khyber, Hangu, Parachinar, Bajaur, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, Tank, Karak, Dera Ismail Khan, and Waziristan.
In Abbottabad and Galiyat, freezing temperatures and heavy snowfall have affected large areas. Power supply in Abbottabad has been disrupted for four days, with village link roads blocked, posing challenges for local residents. Due to severe weather, tourist entry into Galiyat has been banned, and hotels have started to empty as conditions worsen.
