WEB DESK: Meta, the global technology giant, has officially rolled out Meta AI in Urdu for users in Pakistan, marking a significant milestone in making artificial intelligence more accessible and inclusive for local audiences. The launch was announced during the “Future in Focus: AI and Innovation” event, organized in partnership with the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunications (MoITT).
The company’s press release highlighted that these efforts are part of a broader push to accelerate Pakistan’s digital transformation. Now, Pakistani users can interact with Meta AI not only in English but also in Urdu, enhancing local engagement with advanced AI tools.
During the event, Federal IT Minister Shaza Fatima emphasized Pakistan’s digital aspirations, stating, “Under the Prime Minister’s Digital Nation Vision, we are striving for a future where technology empowers every citizen.” She added that the collaboration with Meta underscores the government’s commitment to promoting AI education, fostering innovation, and driving digital change across government and educational sectors. She also noted that incorporating Urdu into Meta AI is a vital step toward ensuring technology is inclusive and accessible for all.
Sarim Aziz, Meta’s Director of Public Policy for South and Central Asia, expressed enthusiasm about supporting public and educational institutions in leveraging AI for digital advancement. “With Meta AI now available in Urdu, we are opening new avenues for the local community to engage with technology in their native language,” he stated.
In addition to the AI language support, Meta introduced a localized edition of the guide titled “Transforming Public Sector Innovation in Asia Pacific with Llama,” created in collaboration with Deloitte and supported by MoITT. This guide explores how Meta’s open-source AI model, Llama, can boost government efficiency, improve public services, and enhance data sovereignty, sharing successful case studies from various Asia-Pacific nations, including Pakistan.
Meta also announced the launch of the AI Literacy Program in partnership with the Higher Education Commission (HEC), National Computing Education Accreditation Council (NCEAC), MoITT, and atomcamp. This initiative aims to train 350 university teachers from non-computer science backgrounds across Pakistan in foundational AI skills, preparing students for the digital future.
Furthermore, Meta unveiled the Government Digital Transformation Xperience (GDTX) 2025 program, designed to provide Pakistani public institutions with access to Meta’s innovative technologies, solutions, and best practices. The initiative aims to foster collaboration between the public and private sectors to share strategies for effective digital transformation, concluding the series of new offerings.
