ISLAMABAD: The federal Minister for railways has said that Islamabad-Tehran-Istanbul freight train service will be resumed by the end of this year.
He was addressing a ceremony held in Islamabad today on completion of renovation and upgradation of Golra Railway Station.
The Minister said regional connectivity is one of the top most priorities in upgradation and modernization of Railways.
He said agreement has been reached for rail connectivity between Uzbekistan, Afghanistan and Pakistan. He said Asian Development Bank will upgrade Karachi to Rohri railway track at a cost of 2 billion dollars.
Hanif Abbasi said upgradation of Nokundi to Rohri track will facilitate transportation of minerals to ports.
Highlighting major reforms in Railways, he said digitalization of the railways is underway as per the vision of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. He said Safe and Smart stations, Cashless Tickets and Free Wi-Fi have already been launched in collaboration with FWO and Pakistan Information Technology Board.
Hanif Abbasi said Freight Online System, Rabta App and 117 Call Centers have increased the convenience of passengers.
He said Pakistan Railways will soon be among the modern railway networks of the world.
