Missile debris kills Pakistani in Abu Dhabi amid rising Gulf tensions

ABU DHABI: A Pakistani national has died in Abu Dhabi after being struck by falling debris from a missile intercepted by air defence systems, according to an official government statement.

The incident occurred in the Bani Yas area following the interception of a ballistic missile, the Abu Dhabi Media Office confirmed. Authorities said the fatality was caused by shrapnel that fell after the missile was destroyed mid-air.

In nearby Dubai, residents reported hearing multiple explosions shortly after emergency alerts warned people to take shelter due to possible missile threats.

The escalation comes as Iran has launched over 1,900 missiles and drones toward the UAE, marking one of the most intense attacks on a Gulf state in recent times. Many of these strikes have targeted strategic sites, including airports, ports, oil facilities, and key infrastructure.

Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s top diplomat, alleged that US military bases in the region were used to carry out strikes against Iran and claimed missiles were launched from the UAE toward Iranian territory. UAE officials have strongly denied these accusations.

Despite successful interceptions by defence systems, the attacks have disrupted travel and heightened anxiety across major cities.

Meanwhile, Qatar also reported intercepting a missile attack, as the broader conflict continues to intensify across the Gulf.

Explosions were heard in Doha for a second consecutive day, underscoring the widening impact of the regional crisis.
