Missile strike hits fuel tanker at Israel’s key oil refinery

HAIFA: An industrial site and a fuel tanker at Oil Refineries Ltd. in northern Israel were struck by falling debris from an intercepted missile, authorities confirmed on Monday.

The incident occurred in Haifa, where emergency services reported that fragments from the missile impacted a gasoline storage area within the refinery complex. Thick smoke was seen rising from the roof of a nearby structure following the strike.

Officials said it remains unclear whether the missile originated from Iran or from Hezbollah in Lebanon, as both were reportedly launching attacks at the time.

Fire and rescue teams quickly brought the situation under control. Fire commander Eitan Rifa confirmed that the blaze was contained, with no casualties or hazardous material risks reported, and no threat posed to the public.

Energy Minister Eli Cohen stated that the refinery’s production facilities were not affected and assured that fuel supplies would continue without disruption.

The refinery, located near a key Israeli naval base and commonly referred to as Bazan, has previously been targeted. It sustained damage in an Iranian missile strike on March 20, and during a separate escalation last June, operations were halted after an attack damaged a power station supplying steam and electricity to the facility.
