Mitchell Starc reaches landmark 100 wickets in Ashes cricket

WEB DESK: Australia’s leading pacer, Mitchell Starc, delivered an exceptional performance in the opening Ashes Test in Perth, dismantling England’s top order with three early breakthroughs and achieving a significant milestone of 100 wickets in Ashes cricket.

Starc etched his name into history as the 21st bowler overall and just the 13th Australian to claim 100 Ashes wickets. He accomplished this impressive feat in only 23 Tests, reflecting his remarkable consistency and influence on the game.

Among active players across both teams, only Starc and Nathan Lyon (with 110 wickets) have reached the prestigious 100-wicket mark in Ashes contests.

Earlier in the match, England chose to bat first after winning the toss at Perth Stadium. They opted for a pace-heavy attack by fielding four seamers, leaving out off-spinner Shoaib Bashir from their 12-man squad.

However, England’s innings crumbled quickly, managing just 172 runs in 32.5 overs. Starc’s electrifying spell proved unstoppable as he secured a remarkable seven-wicket haul, finishing with figures of 7/58 from 12.5 overs.
