Moin Khan denies viral death reports circulating online

KARACHI: Former Pakistan cricket captain Moin Khan found himself at the center of a social media storm after false news of his death spread rapidly across various platforms on Tuesday.

The confusion arose when social media users, competing to break news first, mistakenly featured the photo of 1992 World Cup champion Moin Khan while reporting the death of senior Hyderabad cricketer Moin Khan Rajput.

The deceased, 65-year-old Moin Khan Rajput, was a revered former first-class cricketer and captain of Hyderabad’s Mehboob Sports Cricket Club. Meanwhile, former Test cricketer Moin Khan is alive and in good health.

The misleading posts sparked widespread alarm among Moin Khan’s family, friends, and global fans, leading many to reach out in distress, believing the former wicketkeeper-batsman had passed away.

In response to the chaos, Moin Khan released a video message condemning the dissemination of unverified information. He expressed the emotional strain caused by the false reports, mentioning that he received hundreds of calls and messages from concerned well-wishers.

As the coach of Quetta Gladiators, Moin Khan appealed to social media users and news outlets to confirm facts before sharing news, emphasizing that such irresponsibility can cause significant emotional harm to those affected.

He also offered heartfelt condolences on the passing of Moin Khan Rajput, recognizing his valuable contributions to Hyderabad cricket.
