Moon for Muharram-ul-Haram sighted in Pakistan

QUETTA: The moon of Muharram-ul-Haram 1447 AH has been sighted in Pakistan, the Day of Ashura will be observed on Sunday, July 6.

A meeting of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee was held in Quetta, chaired by Maulana Abdul Khabeer Azad, to observe the new moon of Muharram. Officials from the Space Research Commission (SPARCO) and the Meteorological Department were also present at the meeting.

In addition, zonal and district moon sighting committees held their respective meetings at their designated headquarters.Following the meeting, Maulana Abdul Khabeer Azad, Chairman of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, announced the sighting of the new moon of Muharram.

According to the chairman, the first day of the Islamic lunar calendar, 1st Muharram, will be observed on Friday, June 27. The 9th of Muharram will fall on Saturday, July 5, and the Day of Ashura (10th Muharram) will be on Sunday, July 6.Maulana Abdul Khabeer Azad stated that evidence of moon sighting was received from various regions.
