ISLAMABAD: The new Islamic month of Jumada al-Awwal 1447 AH has officially begun in Pakistan, following the sighting of the moon. The announcement was made by Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad, Chairman of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, after a nationwide meeting to review moon sighting reports.
The key meeting took place at the Ministry of Religious Affairs in Islamabad’s Kohsar Block, where Maulana Azad led discussions attended by religious scholars, meteorologists, and representatives from provincial moon sighting committees.
Simultaneously, local meetings were held in major provincial capitals including Karachi, Lahore, Peshawar, and Quetta—to evaluate weather conditions and testimonies from witnesses who observed the moon. Multiple reports confirmed the crescent’s visibility across different regions, leading to the official declaration.
With credible witnesses confirming the moon sighting, the committee announced that the first day of Jumada al-Awwal will be observed on Thursday, October 24, 2025, across Pakistan. This marks the start of the fifth month in the Islamic lunar calendar, and the announcement is expected to be observed nationwide.
