Most-wanted militant linked to fitna al-Khawarij arrested in Karachi operation

KARACHI: In a major breakthrough, the Sindh Rangers have apprehended a “highly wanted” militant during an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in the Gulistan-e-Johar area of the city, officials confirmed on Thursday.

According to a Rangers spokesperson, the suspect  identified as Dost Muhammad, son of Gul Faraz Khan and a resident of Bajaur  was allegedly involved in a deadly attack carried out in November 2020 targeting the Assistant Commissioner of Nawagai in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. During the assault, government machinery was set on fire and heavy gunfire was reported.

Authorities stated that a case regarding the incident had been registered under serious terrorism provisions by the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) Malakand Region. Following the attack, the accused reportedly went into hiding and relocated to Karachi in an attempt to evade arrest.

Security officials further revealed that the suspect was allegedly planning additional terrorist activities at sensitive installations in Karachi with the help of accomplices. Law enforcement agencies have launched follow-up raids at multiple locations to track down and detain other individuals linked to the network.

After his arrest, the militant was handed over to the CTD Police in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for further investigation and legal action.

The successful operation underscores ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to dismantle militant networks and maintain peace in the metropolis.
