MQM-P, PTI Sign MoU For Formation of New Govt in Centre

Islamabad (August 03, 2018): Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Jahangir Khan Tareen said an understanding has been reached with Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan and hopefully it will join PTI in the government.

Addressing a joint press conference with leaders of MQM-P at Bani Gala in Islamabad this afternoon, Jahangir Tareen said both parties are building on the earlier contacts for formation of government.

He said the manifesto of PTI gives deep importance to devolution of power and an effective local government system.

He said PTI will try to bring police reforms in Sindh in collaboration with MQM like it did in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The PTI leader said the people of Karachi have trusted PTI and MQM through their votes. He said unfortunately no serious effort was made in the past to resolve the problems of Karachi. However, PTI will take steps to give maximum relief and facilities to urban areas of Karachi by announcing a special package for the city.

Moreover, he said, a university would also be set up in Hyderabad to grant the right of higher education to its residents.Speaking on the occasion, convener MQM Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui said we have visited Banigala at the invitation of PTI Chairman Imran Khan. He said today’s meeting is a step forward to extend the journey of democracy.

He said devolution of power will bring more power to people. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui said both MQM and PTI have gained a huge mandate in urban areas of Sindh and they will cooperate with each other.

MQM Convener said PTI has also assured to extend cooperation in the issues of census and delimitation. He said continued operation in Karachi will also be reviewed and taken to its logical conclusion.

Earlier, Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Friday signed a memorandum of understanding for the formation of a new government in the centre.A Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) delegation led by Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui met Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan on Friday reached the agreement following a meeting at Bani Gala residence in Islamabad.

MQM-P delegation included Kanwar naveed Jameel, Waseem Akhtar, Faisal Sabzwari and Amir Khan.

Matters pertaining to coalition for government formation were discussed in the meeting. PTI leaders Jahangir Tareen, Arif Alvi and Imran Ismail were also present on the occasion.

The agreement was signed by MQM-P’s Faisal Sabzwari and PTI leader Arif Alvi. It said that recommendations of Council of Common Interest (CCI) on Karachi population census would be implemented.The PTI will favour a petition filed in the Supreme Court with regard to local bodies system in Sindh, the MoU read.

The agreement also urged for review of Karachi operation and consultation with all the stake-holders, besides meritorious appointments on all posts.

Sources earlier informed that the MQM-P assured PTI of support in the centre after meeting with party chief Imran Khan in Bani Gala.

The MQM-P clinched 16 seats in the Sindh Assembly in the July 25 general election, and has six seats in the National Assembly. The PTI had invited the party to join it in the centre.Earlier, party spokesperson Fawad Chaudhry claimed on Friday that a total of eight independent candidates elected to the National Assembly have joined PTI so far,

A total of 13 independents won seats in the National Assembly during the general election on July 25. Six of these have already joined the PTI.

On July 31, Tareen met MQM-P leadership in Karachi and invited them to join the federal government.

MQM-P put forward various demands to join PTI government in National Assembly. The party, after consultation with Rabita Committee, demanded to stop targeted operation and to reopen its offices in Karachi. It also asked to hold vote recount in 12 constituencies of Karachi.

MQM-P further demanded to construct university in Hyderabad and to issue funds to the mayor.

However; the party has refused to become part of the All Parties Conference and pledged support to PTI.
