Muttahida Qabail Party Demands Timely Elections in FATA

Islamabad (June 25, 2018): Members of the Muttahida Qabail Party (MQP) held a march on Monday to demand timely election for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly seats from the tribal areas in 2018, instead of a year later.

The participants marched from the National Press Club to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), demanding that polls in the tribal areas be held as part of General Election 2018.

Vice-chairman Malik Habib Orakzai, addressing the party workers, instructed them to wait outside the ECP office until their petition is heard.

Since the tribal areas have been merged with KP, the region no more falls under the jurisdiction of the federal government.

Similar protests were staged in the federal capital earlier this month as well.FATA Merger Process To Be Completed in Six Months: Zafar Earlier on June 23, Minister for Information Syed Ali Zafar has expressed hope the process of FATA’s merger with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will be completed in six months.

In an interview, he said the committee formed to materialize FATA’s merger with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is working on the plan speedily.

The Minister said an administrative structure is being raised in the erstwhile FATA, and urban centers and administrative units are being set up under a process.

He said all the issues related to FATA are being thoroughly reviewed.Syed Ali Zafar said the caretaker government will leave comprehensive guidelines in various sectors for the next elected government.

To a question, the Minister said bureaucracy has been shuffled at federal and provincial levels to ensure transparency in elections.

He said the interior ministry is receiving reports on daily basis regarding peaceful elections, and for ensuring foolproof security in elections, decisions are being taken on the basis of those reports.Earlier on June 08, then Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa re-designated the positions of political agents with deputy commissioners (DCs) in the erstwhile Federally Administrated Tribal Areas (FATA), according to a notification issued by the Home and Tribal Affairs Department.

Similarly, the posts of additional political agents and assistant political agents were also replaced by additional deputy commissioners and assistant commissioners respectively with immediate effect, the notification said.
